Alcorn State University recently dedicated the auditorium in its library in memory and honor of Mr Medgar Wiley Evers, a legendary Human Rights activist. It was a fitting tribute to a luminary alumnus and someone who gave his life on behalf of us all.

Some of you may have seen the motion picture "Ghosts of Mississippi."
That film deals with a very serious theme, and an important period of history, in a sober, but not somber, manner. It even handled its few humorous moments in a tasteful fashion.
The movie documents the persistence of Mrs Myrlie Evers in the quest to bring the murderer of her husband, Mr Medgar Evers, to such justice as can be obtained in "this present evil world."
It was forty years in June of 2003 since that assassination - an abominable act of domestic terrorism. (Sometimes it seems like it was just yesterday.)
There is a segment in the movie where the Assistant District Attorney (a courageous Caucasian lawyer) meets with Mr Charles Evers (Medgar's brother) at the radio station of which he is the station manager.
That radio station is WMPR 90.1 FM in Jackson, Mississippi.
Mr Evers is still the station manager and the station epitomizes "Community Radio" at its best. There is an outstanding programming schedule that serves the varied needs of all of the people.
Those who live outside of the local listening area have not been left out. The station also broadcasts on the Internet and you may listen to WMPR when you visit the station's Web site.
