Atonement, Reconciliation and Responsibility

16th Year Anniversary of the Million Man March

On October 16, 1995, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan led more than 2 million men in taking this pledge during the historic Million Man March in Washington, D.C.

I PLEDGE, that from this day forward I will strive to love my brother as I love myself. I, from this day forward, will strive to improve myself spiritually, morally, mentally, socially, politically and economically for the benefit of myself, my family and my people.

I PLEDGE, that I will strive to build businesses, build houses, build hospitals, build factories and enter into international trade for the good of myself, my family and my people.

I PLEDGE, that from this day forward I will never raise my hand with a knife or a gun to beat, cut, or shoot any member of my family or any human being except in self-defense.

I PLEDGE, from this day forward I will never abuse my wife by striking her, disrespecting her, for she is the mother of my children and the producer of my future.

I PLEDGE, that from this day forward I will never engage in the abuse of children, little boys or little girls for sexual gratification. For I will let them grow in peace to be strong men and women for the future of our people.

I WILL NEVER, again use the 'B word' to describe any female. But particularly my own Black sister.

I PLEDGE, from this day forward that I will not poison my body with drugs or that which is destructive to my health and my well-being.

I PLEDGE, from this day forward I will support Black newspapers, Black radio, Black television. I will support Black artists who clean up their acts to show respect for themselves and respect for their people and respect for the ears of the human family.

I will do all of this so help me God.

MR. PRESIDENT!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY,  MR. PRESIDENT!

People Proclaim August 4th
Presidential Appreciation Day

Many of the people who voted for change in the last Presidential election are rallying to the support of President Barack Obama.

A recent statement being widely circulated reads in part:

"Since his historic election, President Obama has been inundated with a barrage of venomous criticism.

From the first cries calling for the failure of his administration by Vitter and Limbaugh to the media critique of his handling of the BP oil spill, his critics are unequivocal in telling us that he can do no right.

We call on ALL who support President Obama to take action.

On August 4th, the President's birthday, we ask those who support him to wear any campaign item from the Presidential election as a demonstration of our ongoing support. Bring out your old campaign paraphernalia.

If you don't have caps, buttons or tee shirts, wear a red, white, and blue tri-color ribbon or clothing on August 4th. If nothing else, this simple demonstration of support for our President will provide a counteraction to the negativity that spews forth daily. We can do this.

YES WE CAN. YES WE WILL!

Please share this information with your friends."

WHY
I CAN'T BE A PRESIDENT,

You have to be nice to too many people who make you either want to hurt them,

or put them out of their misery, or both.

(This is the short version - for the long version please contact us, or see me in person)

When the President was still the President-Elect and the screening of potential public servants was in progress, the Editor did give it some consideration.

After observing the process, and the extreme scrutiny into all areas of a person's background and personal life, the Editor concluded that the only two  people eligible would be Mother Teresa and the Virgin Mary.

Furthermore, witnessing contemporary attitudes, and reading reports of acts of bigotry inflicted on single mothers, one of them would have either been excluded or later fired.

Therefore, the Editor has chosen to remain on the "Fourth Estate" and not yet to "come down from the Reservation" -

Like consider:

Is there anyone still alive (and not yet senile) who remembers and understands the meaning of the old admonition that "loose lips can sink ships" ?

You may read more historical reflections, including reprints old enough that you should not think it's personal at:

The "Good Book"
&
Media Responsibility?

Please read and consider

Exodus 20:16
&
Proverbs 12:17-23
&
Ephesians 4:29

As world events unfold before our very eyes, it would do us all well to consider the consequences of our words and actions and govern our lives accordingly.

The "people of the Book" who worship the God of Abraham in the Judeo-Christian-Islamic community should always remember our accountability and responsibilities to a "Higher Authority" - the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe.

Every person may freely speak, write and publish his sentiments on all subjects, being responsible for the abuse of that right.

No law shall be passed to restrain or abridge the liberty of speech or of the press.

Article I, Section 6 of the New Jersey State Constitution.

Some Sobering Thoughts
For These Serious Times

Looking at the economy, the media, and the political scene,
one may wonder:

Are we on the Titanic, the Lusitania or the Poseidon?

Or, are we, like in the days of Christopher Columbus,
on a three ship trip?

Some of the Last Concerns of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

&

Is THIS The Latest Version
of "COINTELPRO" ?

&

It reads like a horror story from the middle of the 20th Century.
Unfortunately it is 21st Century reality and is much more ominous.

Admonitions
From Two
Founding Fathers!

"Yes, we did produce a near perfect Republic.

But will they keep it?

Or will they in their enjoyment of plenty, lose the memory of freedom?

Material abundance without character is the surest way to destruction.

Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just."

-- Thomas Jefferson

&

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.

It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

-- John Adams

Just because we can
Does not necessarily mean that we should.
We DO have choices
and
Choices have consequences.

Deuteronomy 30:19, (15-20)

Say unto them: As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die . . . ?

Say to them: as I live - declares the Lord GOD - it is not MY desire that the wicked shall die, but that the wicked turn from his [evil] ways and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways, that you may not die . . . !

Ezekiel 33:11, (AV and JPS)

The Power of Words!

The impact of words
(written, spoken and sung)
is enormous.

With that reality comes responsibility
for the consequences of what is uttered
and that should be a very sobering thought.

You can't "un-ring" the bell!

Will history ultimately record that the human tongue is the deadliest weapon on the planet?

Those who consider themselves to be
"children of Abraham"
throughout the Judeo-Christian-Islamic community
should seriously consider the following references.

(It would not hurt for everyone else
to at least give it some contemplation.)

Proverbs 18:21

James 3:5 -10

I Peter 3:10 -12

The golden rule is endorsed by all the great world religions;

And for many centuries the idea has been influential among people of very diverse cultures.

These facts suggest that the golden rule may be an important moral truth.

Frederick Douglass became the first African-American to be nominated for President of the United States in a major party's roll call vote at the 1888 Republican National Convention in Chicago.

Would he ask:
