"CHANGE begins with YOU!"
(quotation from 2008
Obama for America campaign literature)
“We must become the change
“America has never been about what can be done for us.
"LEST WE FORGET!"
O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand, Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation; Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who has brought us thus far on the way. Thou who hast by Thy might, Led us into the Light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God where we met Thee. Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee.
Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, True to our Native land.

REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT
ON A NEW BEGINNING
Cairo, Egypt
June 4, 2009
All of us share this world for but a brief moment in time. The question is whether we spend that time focused on what pushes us apart, or whether we commit ourselves to an effort -- a sustained effort -- to find common ground, to focus on the future we seek for our children, and to respect the dignity of all human beings.
It's easier to start wars than to end them. It's easier to blame others than to look inward. It's easier to see what is different about someone than to find the things we share. But we should choose the right path, not just the easy path. There's one rule that lies at the heart of every religion -- that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. (Applause.) This truth transcends nations and peoples -- a belief that isn't new; that isn't black or white or brown; that isn't Christian or Muslim or Jew. It's a belief that pulsed in the cradle of civilization, and that still beats in the hearts of billions around the world. It's a faith in other people, and it's what brought me here today.
We have the power to make the world we seek, but only if we have the courage to make a new beginning, keeping in mind what has been written.
The Holy Koran tells us: "O mankind! We have created you male and a female; and we have made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another."
The Talmud tells us: "The whole of the Torah is for the purpose of promoting peace."
The Holy Bible tells us: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." (Applause.)
The people of the world can live together in peace. We know that is God's vision. Now that must be our work here on Earth.
Thank you. And may God's peace be upon you. Thank you very much. Thank you. (Applause.)

The following item is an excerpt from a message that the Editor sent to our new President Barack Obama when he was still our President-Elect.
We share it with you because the change that so many people desire depends on actions and attitudes of the very people who desire that change.
After all, the three words that separate the United States of America from all other nations past and present are:
"WE THE PEOPLE"!
FROM A LETTER
FROM THE EDITOR
TO THE PRESIDENT-ELECT:
Congratulations on your electoral victory and sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved grandmother.
Many of us with a sense of history see the hand of a Sovereign Higher Power behind the orchestration of recent events.
In the Bible (Luke 2:25 - 35) there is an account that came to my mind shortly after you visited Jersey City, NJ on January 9, 2008.
After attending your address to an overflow crowd at Saint Peter's College, one the city's pioneering African-American former City Council members (Bobby Jackson) died suddenly. His passing saddened many and occurred only a couple of years after one of his closest colleagues, Glenn Cunningham. Mr Cunningham was the city's first African-American mayor and suddenly transitioned to join our honorable ancestors while busily involved in serving the entire community.
The account about Simeon in the Book of Luke is very comforting when thinking about the timing of such sobering events.
When Bobby Jackson passed, it seemed as if God had allowed him to be with us in the land of the living until he was able to see the person who would become our nation's first African-American President.
Similarly, when I remembered how W.E.B. Du Bois transitioned on the eve of the March on Washington in 1963 and reflected on the passing of your grandmother, it seemed that God again had a message of comfort and reassurance in spite of present day troubles and griefs. (See Romans 8:31 - 39 as one example among many.)
May the hand of God guide and protect you as you lead us into a new era.
You and your family shall remain in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Stan Daniels, Editor,
