FOR OUR CHILDREN

?It is easier to build children than it is to repair men.??Frederick Douglass

Cap4Kids Hint of the Week

School is underway, homework is being assigned, and quizzes are completed. For some children with learning differences, this is quite a struggle.

To get a child tested for learning differences and an IEP, one must request it, usually in writing.

On the www.cap4kids.org/philadelphia website, under the Resources tab (http://www.cap4kids.org/philadelphia/resources.html), you will find sample letters drafted by the Education Law Center for IEP, Revels, Independent Evals, 504 accommodations and a guide for families going through this process.

Also, please check out the many other resources on this tab, and continue to link families in need with the resources to help their children succeed.

"Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA-ACL)

Convenes

54th International Convention"

By Maurice Henderson (Seitu Bayette Muhammad)

The Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey legacy continues to serve as a beacon distinction for being a Founding Father of the Black Nationalism Movement and precursory for 'Race First' self sufficiency. The heir redeemable account of Right Excellence, Garveyism emerged during 1914 as a signification for self improvement and self determination.

Garvey's subsequent founding of the UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement Association) and post anthem implementation of the flag banner social streaming for the colors Red, Black and Green still remains as landmark historical nearly 100 years later.

Currently under the auspices leadership helm of President General/Administrator Senghor Jawara Baye, the UNIA-ACL (African Communities League) 2011 convening of their

54th International Convention in Philadelphia,

the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection.

An entire week of sessions were hosted by local chapters, including the Thomas W. Harvey Memorial Division 121 and the Redman Battle*Queen Nzinga*Steve Biko Division 178. Several hundred attendees, participants and registrant converged on this popular northeast city for an exhaustive schedule that included cultural events, mass meetings, business sessions, keynote addresses, workshops, booksignings, performances, record releases, community parade, karimu feast and a jazz concert.

General sessions provided extensive global reports from divisions located in Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago, Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and other territories, including Africa and the Caribbean. Special recognition was also given to Empress Basiymah Muhammad Bey for the Administrator re-establishment of the Black Cross Nurses, whose charted journey now includes the prosperous promotion and community sustainability of allied health proficiencies. Evening keynote addresses the progressive state of Black Nationalism and the struggles of Africans in America and abroad were provided by President General/Administrator Senghor Jawara Baye, 1st Assistant President General Akil Malik Nkrumah, the Ambassador to Belize Bilal Sunni Ali and among other prominent

figures,.

The 54th International Convention was a huge success and allowed the UNIA-ACL and general public to recall and re-commit themselves to the upheld organizational dynamics and strategic planning by the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey which produced the institutionalization of the Black Cross Nurses, the African Legion, the Universal Motor Corps and the Black Star Line. The UNIA-ACL remains one of the most prominent and active governmental organizations that continually encourages Black Nationalism as the covenant for Bill of Rights optimization. The world community should eagerly await the 55th International Convention scheduled for convening in Atlanta, Georgia during 2012.

In today?s world, it is important for everyone to be digitally literate. Broadband adoption is vital for our communities because it helps improve our children?s education, our local economy, and the ability for members of our communities to find jobs and benefit from opportunities available online. Comcast Internet Essentials will provide eligible families with: -- Affordable home Internet service ($9.95 per month) -- A low-cost computer ($149.99 plus taxes) -- Access to free internet training ? online, in print and in classroom (at established community training sites) Internet Essentials will be available everywhere that Comcast offers its high-speed Internet service. Students in more than 4,000 school districts in 39 states and the District of Columbia will be able to participate. Comcast will accept new Internet Essentials participants for at least three years, through the end of the 2013-14 school year. Any household that qualifies during this three-year period will remain eligible for Internet Essentials, provided the household still qualifies for the program, until that child graduates from high school. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Are these manufacturer coupons or coupons that I print on my computer?

A: All of our coupons are actual manufacturer coupons. Fewer and fewer retailers accept coupons that are printed from your computer because of a huge increase in counterfeit coupons. Actual manufacturer coupons which we issue are accepted everywhere that coupons are accepted.

Q: Can these coupons be doubled? A: Yes. These are manufacturer issued coupons and may be doubled in any store that offers double coupons.

Q: What are the face values and the expiration dates of these coupons? A: Being manufacturer coupons, the manufactuer determines the face values of the coupons. We currently stock coupons ranging in value from 40 cents to 5.00 dollars. The coupon expiration dates are generally valid
