The first major  conspiracy for a possible slave rebellion occurred in Gloucester County,  Virginia--Sept. 1663. The plot by black slaves and white indentured servants  was betrayed to the authorities. Several plotters were beheaded.

Hereeeeeeeeeeeeees...  Kathy’s Korner!

A customer wanted to  ask his attractive waitress for a date, but

couldn't get her  attention. When he was able to catch her eye, she

quickly looked away.  Finally he followed her into the kitchen and

blurted out his  invitation. To his amazement, she readily consented.

He said, "Why  have you been avoiding me all this time? You wouldn't

even make eye  contact."

"Oh," said  the waitress, "I thought you wanted more coffee."

New York Conspiracy--March and April, 1741-- Thirty-one slaves and four whites were executed  as a result of rumors of a major slave rebellion in New York City. It is  unknown whether these rumors were based on fact or were part of a larger  paranoia which existed regarding slave uprisings.

WORD-OF-THE-WEEK

verbose \vuhr-BOHS\, Abounding in  words; using or containing more words than are necessary; tedious by an  excess of words; wordy; as, "a verbose speaker; a verbose argument."

Greetings Coalition  Family!

Welcome to first installment acknowledging African Heritage Month  2012.

"The events which transpired five thousand years ago; Five years  ago or five minutes ago, have determined what will happen five minutes from  now; five years From now or five thousand years from now.

All history is a current event." - Dr John Henrik Clarke

Many of my unfortunate brethren have been moved to passionately  protest the presence of the flag of the confederacy at public buildings in  certain locations throughout the south. Although I understand the desire to  purge our environment of symbols of the atrocities of the Afrikan Holocaust,  I wish to bring to your conscious minds the fact that we only suffered under  the confederate flag for four years, while we have been tortured under the  stars and stripes for more than four centuries. If placed in the position of  having to make an intelligent observation, which flag would you say is more  representative of the tyrannical abuses to which we have been subjected?

HEALTH  MATTERS

Consider  becoming a vegetarian. I am a pure vegetarian not because killing animals is  bad or because I am an animal lover. In fact I dislike animals, I have  especially come to dislike dogs and cats (I think both are dirty creatures. I  apologize to dog and cat lovers). I am a vegetarian because

    • Plants don't ‘poop’.
    • Plants don't have sweat glands.
    • Plants don't have blood.
    • I don't like chewing on dead bodies.
    • I am not blood thirsty.
    • Vegetarians live longer.
    • Vegetarians are healthier.
    • Apart from salt which can be got  from the sea and vitamin B12 which can be manufactured, plants lack no  nutrients that an animal can give because the animals themselves got  those nutrients from plants. In fact animals may lack many nutrients  that plants have because they may not have absorbed it.
    • Plant food is healthy food. All  plant germs are destroyed by proper cooking. Whereas animal germs may  survive even when fully cooked because the fat in animals protect the  germs from being destroyed. Such fat is not present in plants.
    • Plants can't cause Pandemics like  bird flu, SARS. There is a possibility that an animal virus can infect  man, but there is not even a remote possibility that a plant dependent  bacteria can migrate to humans.
    • Plant food is plentiful as they lie  at the bottom of the food pyramid.
    • If the demand for animal food does  not go down, then animals will continue being crammed into confined  spaces in order to breed the largest numbers in the smallest area  possible, which will increase the likelihood that an animal virus will  migrate to man.
    • I live in India (The world's number  one vegetarian country.). (We Indians have a terrible time finding good  (healthy vegetarian) food when we travel outside of India.)
    • My ancestors have been vegetarians  for thousands of years. We are pure vegetarians meaning we don't touch  any animal product except milk (which all humans drink from their  mothers when they are born, so don't tell me milk is harmful to man).  We won't even touch fish, chicken and eggs.
    • Elephants are 1000 times more stronger than  you. Elephants are the biggest land animals and elephants are pure  vegetarians. I am pointing out this to bust the myth that vegetarians  can't become big and strong.                                                                   -Shankar

Get Fresh!

Volunteer  with Philabundance Fresh for All

You  recycle out the wazoo and consider yourself

consigliore  of the enviro-sack mafia.

Hence,  a cause you can believe in: Philabundance wants to fill those ubiquitous bags  with produce through its new Fresh for All programs.

And  you can help by volunteering.

The  nonprofit hands out perishables at six sites in the

Delaware  Valley — where nutritious diet staples are hard to come by, especially in  tough times.

With  a minimum three-hour commitment, you’ll keep busy. Help with admin, approve  clients, or do community outreach

(posting  mailings, making phone calls).

Looking  for something physical?

Take  food to sites, divide apples, and dole out the goods. You’ll be doing a major  part to help people get the fruits and veggies they need.

And  that’s a green movement to be proud of.

To  participate in Fresh for All, contact

Tunisia Garnett (215-339-0900 ext.  238 or

tgarnett@philabundance.org).

FREQUENTLY  ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Are these manufacturer coupons or  coupons that I print on my computer?

A:  All of our coupons are actual manufacturer coupons. Fewer and fewer retailers  accept coupons that are printed from your computer because of a huge increase  in counterfeit coupons. Actual manufacturer coupons which we issue are  accepted everywhere that coupons are accepted.

Q:  Can these coupons be doubled?
A: Yes. These are manufacturer issued coupons and may be doubled in any store  that offers double coupons.

Q:  What are the face values and the expiration dates of these coupons?
A: Being manufacturer coupons, the manufacturer determines the face values of  the coupons. We currently stock coupons ranging in value from 40 cents to  5.00 dollars. The coupon expiration dates are generally valid for 90 days.

Q:  How can I use $1,000.00 worth of coupons in 90 days?
A: With our program, you get to choose the coupons you want, when you want  them. This way you never have to worry about the coupons expiring.

Q: How do I choose the coupons  I want?
A: Each coupon book contains coupon request slips which you fill out and send  in. Those coupons are then mailed to you.                                           ----- Coalition  members!
