Greetings Coalition Family!
White Bread
I have been asked on many occasions where does the person involved in an interracial relationship fit in the scheme of repositioning the american-born Afrikan to a status in keeping with their place in the universal family? By some it has been assumed that our efforts are to the detriment of whites. The only whites that will be negatively affected are those that have enjoyed and continue to enjoy the relegation of dark people to a less than equal status in this society. And in the long run, they too will be enriched. I am fond of analogies to a fault, but that will not deter me form sharing this one with you. Let us imagine building a sandwich, two slices of bread and the filling of your choice. Now let’s further imagine you like both white and rye breads equally (equally is the operative word, stay with me now). We want the white and rye bread to influence our taste buds equally (there’s that word again). Now if the rye bread has not been prepared true to its recipe, perhaps unduly influenced by the varying amounts of bleached wheat flour, it will not make its true contribution to the sandwich, some of the flavor in this sandwich will be lost. “We hear you! Get to the point!” I am likening a relationship to a sandwich; the filling is the love caring, trust passion, dependency, the bread, the participants. No matter the flavor, if one slice is deficient, is less than it was intended, it will not make an equal (that word again) contribution to the beauty of the sandwich. Black folk in this society have been closed off from our original ingredients, have lost some, and in extreme cases, all of our original flavor. I see the need to regain the flavor in order to make an equal (you have to be getting it now) contribution to the flavor of this universal sandwich. So, whether you’re in wheat on rye, a white on rye, wheat on white relationship, get your flavor together it can only make a better sandwich. Ed.
It is our uniqueness that gives freshness and vitality to a relationship.

With the winter moratorium over for Utility shutoffs, many families have to make the decision to pay their utility bills while sacrificing necessities such as summer food for their children. On the newly designed CAP4Kids website at www.cap4kids.org/philadelphia , under the Utilities subsection (http://cap4kids.org/philadelphia/parent-handouts/housing-utilities/utility-programs/) you will find listing of utilities programs for low income families as well as energy saving ideas. Also, under the Food/Nutrition subsection of emergency food resources (http://cap4kids.org/philadelphia/parent-handouts/food-nutrition-breastfeeding/emergency-food-resources/) you will find summer food programs for kids as well as a listing of various emergency food resources in Philadelphia. ----- Coalition members! THE FRONTAL ATTACK
by the The Nation of Islam to check the violence tearing down what is left of The National Black Community.
Rather than conduct it's Men Meeting Monday evenings, the Fruit of Islam (The Men) have mobilized in the streets in a reported "100" cities across America. The objective is to organize community wide efforts of every element in the community to clean up the so-called "up tick in violence" that haunts us. Whatever city we happen to be in, please report back if you intend to relate in some way to this important, historic initiative effort, led by Minister Louis Farrakhan, The National Representative of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

Kim's Charity Birthday Celebration
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
I want to share with you information regarding an event coming up this Friday, July 27, 2012 from 7 pm - 10 pm at Mixto's Restaurant, 1141 Pine Street, Center City, Philadelphia.
As a RSVP member of Professional Networking Associates, you are aware that many of the events, we advocate support community initiatives focusing either on youth engagement or community leadership development.
This event, Kim's Charity Birthday Celebration focuses on providng backpacks and school supplies to needy families in Frankford section of Philadelphia.
I think its a wonderful gesture for Kim to use her birthday and personal relationships to do something special for youth and families in the Frankford area.
However, this kind of thing is typical for Kim Washington. Her job is as a community organizer and event coordinator for the Equal Partners In Change (EPIC) Community Stakeholder group in Northeast Philadelphia.
Kim works to organize and facilitate a process of community engagement that connects community residents with vital resources and powerful relationships. She works with influential elected officials and needy families and individuals. Kim helps to level the playing field between government systems and your local nieghbors by creating a positive, interactive environment for individuals and organizations to work together for the good of their community.
The Northeast EPIC Community Stakeholder Group consists of members of civic organization, police department, school district staff, Faith-based organizations, Community Development Corporation, State representatives Tony Payton, jr., and Jorge Santana, City Council Maria Sanchez as well as community residents from across the northeast area.
The types of initiatives and events that Kim coordinates, supports and advocates for are numerous including:
Supporting Faith Based Community Festival, Philadelphia Recovery Walk, Domestic Violence Workshops, Community park day for youth, Turkey, toys, clothing and food giveways, community clean ups, back to school events and youth engagement activities.
In past year, Kim has coordinated and supported over 131 community activities with over 2, 253 participants.
A COMMUNITY HERO
She is definitely an asset to her community. In addtion, Kim is beautiful, outgoing African Amercian female devoted to positive outcomes in her community.

Open Letter To Our Community:Save Sistas' Place
by Bob Law
It is called Sistas' Place, but in realty, it has always been our place. For 17 years, Sistas' Place has remained one of the most courageous, significant, independent, stand-alone cultural institutions serving the Black Community.
This is one cultural and political institution that truly belongs to us, and as such we will sustain it. Sistas' Place has no corporate sponsors, wealthy guardian angels, but Sistas' Place has you and I. And the good news is that 's enough.
To address their critical financial challenge, we are launching a Sistas' Place
membership drive . We need 400 people in the next 20 days to become sustaining members of Sistas' Place by buying a $30 membership. Please
become a sustaining member by sending your membership fee of $30 to
Sistas' Place, 456 Nostrand Ave., Brooklyn 11216. Make checks, money orders payable to the Harriet Tubman, Fannie Lou Hammer Woman's Coalition

Million Fathers March
The
Million Father March is an opportunity for Black men to show their
commitment to the educational lives of their children on the first
day of school and throughout the school year. On the first day of
school each year since the March began in 2004, Black fathers,
relatives, men, and significant male caregivers are asked to take
their children to their first day of school. Fathers,
grandfathers, foster fathers, stepfathers, uncles, cousins, big
brothers, significant male caregivers and friends of the family
will participate in the event. Last year, 100,000,000 fathers in
767 cities took their children to school on the first day of
school. This year we expect 1,250,000 fathers in 800 cities to
participate in the Million Father March 2012.
Among
the participating cities is our very own Philadelphia. A former
educator and proud father David Fattah is the coordinator for the
Million Father March 2012 here. This year for the first time The
House of Umoja will be creating a companion journal to accompany
the March and would like to distribute it to the participating
fathers and care givers and also the interested public not only
here in Philadelphia but also in the other participating
cities.
