"Oh Mrs Parks
You caused quite a fuss
When you stayed in your seat
Near the front of that bus!"

In one of her last acts of kindness,
Thousands Honor Civil Rights Martyrs

As Founding Chairperson of the National Campaign for Tolerance, Mrs Rosa Parks lived until the dedication of the Civil Rights Memorial Center and Wall of Tolerance in Montgomery, Alabama.

Thousands of people from around the world gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the first memorial center in the nation that honors those slain in the Civil Rights Movement.

Then, a day later (on United Nations Day), Mrs Rosa Parks peacefully boarded the "Glory Land Express" and joined our Honorable Ancestors.

It's time more people learned about the real "barbershop" -

"QUEEN MOTHER" HAS SPOKEN

(And She Isn't Jokin')!

The Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development was co-founded in February 1987 by Mrs. Rosa Parks and Ms. Elaine Eason Steele, in honor of Raymond Parks (1903 - 1977). It is the living legacy of two individuals who committed their lives to civil and human rights.

The era of legalized racial segregation caused Raymond's and Rosa's commitment to first class citizenship for people of color. Self taught with minimal formal education, Raymond was a skilled barber. Rosa, a domestic worker and seamstress, finished high school after her marriage to Raymond. They both encouraged others to register to vote, pool their financial resources, advocate for quality formal education and become involved in community development.

MRS ROSA PARKS AGAIN

REFUSES TO TAKE A "BACK SEAT"!

"R-E-S-P-E-C-T" - just a little bit!

Aretha Franklin proclaimed that message so clearly several decades ago that some modern pretenders to artistic thrones should have gotten the message. Unfortunately, in a land of the "Grateful Dead" and far too many ungrateful living, this has not happened.

One of the leading "Queen Mothers" of the Human Rights movement has again made a historical statement by not moving from her seat.

This time, however, instead of refusing to move to the "back of the bus," she has refused to move to the "back of the 'barbershop'"!

By decling an invitation to the 2003 Image Awards presentations, she made a powerful statement for integrity, decency, dignity and respect.

so we can mess up what we are doing now . . ."
