DISTINGUISHED EDUCATOR & JOURNALIST

GIL NOBLE OPENS FALL PROGRAM SERIES

After introductions by Ms Jackie Clark, representing the Friends of the East Orange Public Library and the Honorable Ronald L Bowser, Mayor of East Orange, another milestone in African-American history was marked.

Mr. Gil Noble conducted "an afternoon dialogue" with a representative cross section of the entire community. He first addressed the assembly in a very thorough, thoughtful, sensitive and thought provoking "Like It Is" manner.

Mr. Noble covered past, present and future concerns and issues of African and African American people. He analyzed many factors including history, culture, economics, politics, leadership, family, racism and injustice, examining causes and effects.

The award-winning journalist emphasized the importance of education as both a cure and an antidote for the informational malnutrition afflicting far too many people today.

After his presentation, Mr. Noble opened the floor to public dialogue.

In the time proven tradition of "it takes a village," the collective experience, knowledge and wisdom of several generations was drawn upon. The result was the stimulation of deeper insight, understanding and creative problem solving. Positive solutions to present crises and constructive responses to contemporary challenges were envisioned.

The value of and need for more forums of this type was clear to all in attendance.  Mr. Noble strongly encouraged all to be personally active in advancing education and constructive community dialogue in order to resolve the many long-standing issues confronting the worldwide African community.
