The Message of Violence and Killing in the MusicEnough Is Enough
|
So the Black people all over are wondering how Bush got re Elected
and they are crying like babies well lets look at this
There is a record that is being played all the time, all over, all day, in the inner Cities where there is a plight of Killings, shooting people with a Gun a community where there is no jobs, no business that puts the money it makes back into the community, and where the people is always crying, and today they are still crying, and that record is New York.... With the rapper Ja Rule and other rappers can you tell me how can we allow this record to be played and send the message that the record is sending ---100 Guns and 100 Clips, rapping about shooting people, with AK47s, Beating people up Selling Cocaine, Disrespecting the Black woman,( somebody's mother) and the Teenage Daughter. We hear no out cry from the parents, the community, the political leaders, the youth, and others about this record and then we ask the question and are steamed up about Bush winning again we have to Stand for something
The people said, that they voted on moral issues this 2004 election and we see the results, but in our community we need to pay more attention what's going on around us, and start listening to the words of songs and if we find them offensive then we need to say something advocate for more positive lyrics and stop buying these records, stop supporting these rappers, stop listening to foolishness.
I think that with all the many family members who have lost a love one to Guns/ Violence all over in Boston, Detroit, New York, Atlanta, D.C., North Carolina, South Carolina, California, and I can go on this record is very Hurtful not to mention damaging, and it sounds like to me they are trying to fuel something and increase the numbers of Deaths with their message in the community, instead of building up the community I could be wrong....
There is a great need for positive messages in our community and we have to start a rallying cry and address the issues of Guns & Violence in Our Community check out our web site www.enoughisenoughcoalition.com Minister Thomas Ellis

The time is long overdue for Responsibility In Free Speech!
Copyright © 2004 by Stan Daniels, Editor, Urban Cartographer Online
The damages and toll of deaths and injuries inflicted on the populations of many nations by the words and actions of irresponsible public figures (masquerading as celebrities, entertainers and athletes) is on a scale matching that of such natural disasters as earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes and volcanoes. A disproportionate share of pain and suffering is hurled upon the very young and the aged - those least able to handle it. The Editor recently received an urgent plea for help from an educator in Africa seeking "materials, methodologies and [other] information to change the learning culture and environment" in a nation that once was famous for its educational excellence. Today, its educators are challenged by students who express the attitude "my parents didn't have it so I don't need it," and cry out for help to solve a "problem [that] is bigger than a simple lack of education." (Does anything sound familiar?) People want constructive solutions and answers to the problems plaguing society today. This has been shown conclusively by the response to our survey of readers of the transcript of the speech that Dr. Bill Cosby gave on May 17, 2004 in Washington, DC. Minister Thomas Ellis and the Enough Is Enough Coalition for several years have been in the forefront of community service by presenting positive responses to contemporary challenges. They must be doing something right. They have incurred the wrath of some critics putting them in some good company (That good company includes Martin Luther King, Malcolm X Shabazz, Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.) The minister and his colleagues have been following the examples shown in such Scriptures as Matthew 9:36, Matthew 14:14, Mark 6:34, Ezekiel 18:31 and Ezekiel 33:11. Meanwhile, the letter to the editor of a regional newspaper reprinted below, and broadcast over at least one major radio station that has a worldwide listening audience, shows how much more educational work is needed. It confirms the validity of Proverbs 17:28 and merits the responses advised in Proverbs 26:4 and Proverbs 26:5

Letter to the Editor
"Take the offensive
Thomas Ellis of Newark's Enough Is Enough Coalition and his partners against violence had better do more than just march if they are to rid their communities of the evil element that has a deadly stranglehold on them. The time for reasoning and rapping with this societal scourge has passed. The time for drastic action is now! Desperate times call for desperate measures! To allow such a situation to advance to this degree of danger is lunacy. The gang mentality rules the streets of America and has reached epidemic proportions. Our survival is threatened by this lawless element, and law enforcement authorities and the public had better shift into an attack mode and prepare for an all-out fight to the finish with this 'evil empire' that surrounds us. The first step in waging this citizen campaign is to identify, isolate, neutralize and eliminate the enemy! Let the battle begin!"

"The past is prophetic in that it asserts loudly that wars are poor chisels for carving out peaceful tomorrows. One day we must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means. How much longer must we play at deadly war games before we heed the plaintive pleas of the unnumbered dead and maimed of past wars? Why can't we at long last grow up, and take off our blindfolds, chart new courses, put our hands to the rudder and set sail for the distant destination, the port city of peace?"

The Minister Responds (to the critical letter reprinted above)
The Star-Ledger Friday, December 31, 2004
Letter to the Editor
Violence is no answer
Contrary to reader Joseph Doherty ("Take the offensive," Dec. 28), violence begets violence. It would not be wise to become vigilantes in the name of stopping violence. As founder and president of the Enough Is Enough Coalition and a victim of gun violence -- I was shot multiple times in a robbery attempt on New Year's Eve 1997 and left for dead in the street -- I will always think before I act. Our organization and its partners understand that you don't solve violence with violence. "Identify, isolate, neutralize and eliminate the enemy" is not our mission. We are not the military, just concerned citizens and advocates for peace and a safer community. Desperate times call for education, prevention, awareness and raising consciousness about gun violence. Boston, Atlanta, NewYork City, Columbine, Jonesboro, Paduka, Kansas City, Camden, Elizabeth -- all these places and more have been affected by guns and violence. Doherty should take a look at the difference the Enough Is Enough Coalition has made and the lives we have touched.

Dear Children of God:
"If I shut up the heavens and there is no rain; if I command the locusts to ravage the land; or if I loose pestilence against My people, when My people, who bear My name, humble themselves, pray, and seek My favor and turn from their evil ways, I will hear in My heavenly abode and forgive their sins and heal their land." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHEN will humanity finally say "NO" to the insanity and wickedness of hatred, violence, warfare and terrorism ? Still Overlooked by far too many people today - "When we look at modern man, we have to face the fact that modern man suffers from a kind of poverty of the spirit. Which stands in glaring contrast to his scientific and technological abundance. We've learned to fly the air like birds, we've learned to swim the seas like fish, and yet we haven't learned to walk the earth as brothers and sisters." -- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr Martin Luther
